Where did the idea for your career come from?
I’ve always wanted to own a business. When I was younger, I was always overweight and uncomfortable in my own body. Then after I graduated high school, I was going through a dark time in my life and had to pull myself out of the worst physical and mental shape of my life. After realizing how much fitness means to my overall happiness and life satisfaction, I decided to make it my life purpose. I am very passionate about wellness and serving my clients to help them achieve their fitness goals. My business is pretty small at the moment, I have a few freelancers that are helping me with my content strategy mostly, but I look forward to expanding my reach to be able to help more people.
What does your typical day look like and how do you make it productive?
Well, currently, due to coronavirus prevention measures, my days do not look “typical.” Normally I would meet with my high-end clients at their gyms or my primary location. I have about 4-6 one-on-one sessions per day usually, and follow up Zoom calls with 2-4 other clients or potential clients. Now that most gyms are closed, I connect with my clients remotely. It’s essential to keep an active lifestyle even in isolation. To stay productive, I usually plan my weekly goals on Sundays and always check my goals for the following day the night before. I also try to schedule time for myself to make sure I practice what I preach.
How do you bring ideas to life?
I have a step-by-step process that I’ve come up with that works for me. When I have an idea, I always start with evaluating it, and sometimes I connect with trusted friends to get their opinions. Then, if it passes the evaluation, I decide who is going to implement it. Most of the time, everything that is related to my personal branding, marketing, or content, is being outsourced. For example, I recently launched a website and content strategy. It also was an idea at some point, but because I have a great marketing team, we are able to make it come to life, and I am very pleased with the results.
What’s one trend that excites you?
I am very excited to see a spike of healthy lifestyle changes following the coronavirus outbreak. The research showed that people who smoked were more likely to develop complications versus people who did not. That shows the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and improving your immune system. I am a big promoter of a holistic lifestyle. With my clients, I talk about nutrition, supplements, fitness, weight training, and mental health. It all ties together, in my opinion.
What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an entrepreneur?
Plan, prioritize, and delegate. It’s something I had to learn because I used to be a very hectic person. As an entrepreneur, you can’t get everything done yourself. You have to do what makes the most impact. For me, it’s client work. My clients are very busy high-end executives that believe they do not have time for fitness or meal prepping. By planning, prioritizing and delegating, we make time for their health. So this habit is very impactful.
What advice would you give your younger self?
This is a good question. I would say: “Hardships reveal our purpose. So embrace them and do not resist the change.” Mainly because my business wouldn’t exist if I didn’t go through the dark times in my life. It also applies to current events, by the way. We can either be afraid of what is happening or embrace reality. I believe that many people will discover their purpose after the quarantine is over.
As an entrepreneur, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?
I am a believer in checking in with yourself often. Sometimes we get caught up in doing what we are used to doing, and so we start living life on autopilot. Life turns into a routine that we do not enjoy anymore. So I check in with myself over and over, daily, weekly and monthly to make sure I do what I love. You can always make changes and adjust your routine to make sure you mostly do things you enjoy. Outsource the rest.
What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?
Digital marketing and blogging. We’ve recently built a website and are working on producing content to improve client experience. It helps because my potential clients want to see my expertise before they hire me.
What is one failure you had as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome it?
I don’t think I’ve shared this before, but I actually had another blog before we launched my new website. It wasn’t successful because I did everything myself. I would do one-on-ones with my clients, Zoom calls, created nutrition plans and also wrote content. Well, let’s just say it didn’t work out because I only had 24 hours in a day. I felt exhausted. That’s when I realized I had to prioritize and delegate.
What is one business idea that you’re willing to give away to our readers?
I think it would be awesome if someone started a health blog specifically dedicated to the prevention and treatment of respiratory illnesses. I started introducing diaphragm breathing exercises to my clients to help improve lung function. There are many natural remedies from respiratory symptoms that we do not even know about. I recently started digging into the information related to this.
